Finding a proper windowpane check shirt is really hard. Well, finding one in the right material, with the right colours and all the little details is even harder!
Whenever I’ve come across one in a shop, it’s nearly always been made from that thick, woolly material, a bit like something an American hunter would wear. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s not what I had in mind.
What I wanted was something much more 60s and early 70s. A proper check shirt, with a nice lightweight feel, a good collar and colours that really work together.
And I think we’ve got it spot on with this one :-)
And an extra cool point, there is only 52 of these :-)
The main colour is a lovely warm peachy orange, with yellow, pale blue, white and dark navy running through the check. It’s quite an unusual combination, but that’s exactly why I like it. There’s a lot going on colour-wise, yet it all works together.
It really reminds me of those great late 60s and early 70s shirts. The sort of thing you’d see in an old photograph of a band, or someone wearing out to a club. Colourful without being too over the top.
We’ve gone for our usual higher button-down collar, long sleeves and a chest pocket. All those little details that make a difference.
So yes, I’m super happy with how this check has turned out. It’s one of those shirts I’ve wanted us to make for ages, but finding the right material was always the problem.
And now we’ve finally done it :-)
The Jackpot returns — brand new and in a limited edition for 2026.
Way back in the day, we started doing the Jackpot shirts, and we still see people wearing those originals now. It has taken us a while to find a supplier who could make them with all the right details, without us having to order thousands at a time. So the shirt you see here is genuinely limited — there are fewer than 80.
Going forward, our intention is to produce really smart shirts inspired by the kind of styles you would have seen on Mods in the sixties, and on bands such as The Beatles, The Action and the Spencer Davis Group. That same sharp look went on to become a staple of the late-sixties Skinhead and Suedehead scenes, and of course has always had a strong connection with Northern Soul.
The shirts have been developed exclusively for 66 Clothing, with particular attention to some very important details. The main priority of course, was the High Collar, which we needed to have a really good roll on the collar when worn. We feel that there are just too many collars which don’t have that class/smart look, so this had to be just right.
The collar length and the position of the button was very important, we wanted it to be an integral part of the design not just an ornament, which we have seen on some modern designs. When worn the collar hugs the neck, and doesn’t fall to one side, so it makes the wearer look neat and tidy.
Also the sewn in back pleat, the loop, the button on the back of the collar. Every little detail taken care of.
The button down is a classic shirt, and has been since the Mod Jazz / IVY days of the 50s. Worn with a suit or Sports Jacket, it’s style had that certain refinement that set it apart from conventional collars. Each decade since then has seen the Button Down change to suit the times. Of course the Mod Style, that became the skinhead and suedehead, has some great colour combinations and a tradition that we wanted to pay tribute to, but with our individual touch.
So yes you can wear these shirts casually at the weekend, perhaps to a soul, mod or ska do, but they also look good under a jacket, eg. harrington.
The shirts here are a limited run, and there are only 20 these.
