The white terry towelling socks were every where in the 80s. Its so reminiscent of the Two Tone Movement, and was totally adapted by everyone. We think the first real media time you see the socks so vividly is 77 Jam. The image of the young Weller, jumping up in his Two Tone Gibson Jam shoes, bashing his guitar was such a great striking image. And part of that image was everything was Black & White. Fast forward a year or two and The Specials take that look , and multiply it. The 2 Tone man Walt Jabsco, has white socks, and so did most of the Specials.
So we couldn’t believe that White Towelling socks weren’t available anymore, and so it has been on our list for ages to get them made. Without boring you to much, finding someone with the right machine has proved difficult. Towelling of this kind requires special machinery , and finding a company that is happy to do a small run, is even more difficult. So I know some people will mention the price ! because I remember buying socks like this for like a £1 , but then you could also get chips for 30p in them days as well !
They wash well, but please be careful with them so no tumble drying.
The socks are incredibly soft and feel much much better to wear than the cheap market ones we used to wear in the 80s. You will be very surprised
As for styling , there are so many different outfits these work with, for both men and women. And we have included a photo library below for you to get some ideas.
