The Downing takes its cue from the striped surf tees that turned up on Californian beaches in the mid-60s. Even the name nods to a celebrated surfer from that era.
Fabric & feel
Cut from a 300 g cotton-poly blend, it’s noticeably weightier than a standard T-shirt yet still lets air move through the weave. I wore one during last summer’s heatwave and never felt boxed in. The extra heft also means the shirt hangs cleanly and keeps its shape, giving it an almost knit-like drape.
Edition size
Only 100 have been made in this colour-way. No restocks, no second run.
How to wear
Holiday shorts, weekend jeans, under a Harrington—there isn’t much it won’t pair with. It works especially well with our new Dewey Bumps or any of the summer shoes in the range.
Road-tested
Lynne debuted the sample in our video shoot, then put it through its paces at a couple of Northern Soul nights—no complaints.
Sizing notes
Fits true to 66 sizing. If you wear XL in Gabicci or other 66 shirts, stick with XL here.

What a shirt! The cut, the colours (the other shirts in the range are all amazing too!) and all the little details mentioned above. Just *chefs kiss*. The heavier cotton Downing range seals the deal for me. Whether worn down on the beach the Summertime, home or abroad, or in the British Spring or Autumn, it’s utter perfection. This colour way is my particular favourite, I’m wearing it right now. 66 Clothing, never stop doing what you do! Perfection.
